Cycle racing this week was held on the Coomba Park road course of 18 km's per lap. It was a day for the hardy cyclist as winter conditions prevailed with cold winds & rain arriving during the afternoon. Numbers were understandably down so A & B Grade was combined along with C & D Grade also being combined with the lower grade given 2 minutes start over the higher grade. Phil Grenfell was home on a weeks visit & would ensure a tough ride for three laps sceduled. Indeed it was Grenfell who broke away, taking Glen Handford along. Dan Aldridge met with mechanical troubles taking him out of the race. Gavin Jackson combined with Wayne Callaghan to take up the chase as they had dropped Mal Saad & Greg Walmsley on the second lap. Callaghan unfortunately punctured on the third lap, robbing him of the B Grade win, allowing Saad & Walmsley to pass while he repaired the flat. Phil Grenfell won A Grade with Glen Handford right on his wheel but unable to overtake at the line & had to settle for second. Gavin Jackson third. Mal Saad took the B Grade win, finishing strongly to beat Greg Walmsley. Wayne Callaghan fixed his flat tyre & finished third.

Wilf Alley, Robert Alley, Len Newman, Darren Harvey & Chris Bryan were the D Grade contingent, being chased by Clint Squires, Steve McInerney, Steve Richardson, Russell Davis & Ian Budden. Two laps of the course was the race distance. C grade chased hard & had caught D Grade by the turn on the first lap. Wilf Alley & Darren Harvey were unable to match the pace & were dropped. On the second lap, Russell Davis was dropped after being in back pain after a work injury during the week. At the final turn for home, McInerney made a break but was chased down by Squires & Budden. The bunch then rode to the finish with Squires leading out for an early sprint. McInerney was too strong & took the win with Ian Budden second & Clint Squires in third place. New rider Chris Bryan won the D Grade sprint from  Len Newman with Rob Alley in third. Russell Davis & Steve Richardson came in together with Davis fourth & Richardson fifth in C Grade. Wilf Alley was Fouth in D Grade & Darren Harvey a distant fifth.

E Grade had four starters, Graeme Budden, Stephen Nicholson, Paula Callaghan & new rider, John Bryan. They raced for one lap of the course with Graeme Budden winning from Stephen Nicholson, Paula Callaghan third & John Bryan fourth.

Thanks to Alister Currie & Amber Piper for Traffic Control duties & Gary Piper for running the event & Robert Alley for doing the registrations.
