Racing last Saturday was conducted on the Central Lansdowne course. A stiff wind out of the South-West made for tough conditions on the way to the outer turn & ensured a fast pace on the return. All grades raced in graded scratch races with a lack of starters in B Grade forcing B & C Grades to be combined for a three lap event. A Grade raced for 4 laps, D Grade for 2 laps & the juniors a 6 km course. A Grade started very quickly with Josh Blick & Phil Grenfell looking to dominate with an early breakaway. The bunch chased hard & caught the pair, from there the race unfortunately became a race of attrition with only two riders making the finish line. Graham Norris took the win from Gavin Jackson in a sprint finish. Phil Knowles was unlucky to get a flat on the second lap.

                   The combined C & B grade race had the best field of the day with eleven starters. Clint Squires & Noel Mathiske were probably the pre race favorites, but Matt Worth would ensure the field would be kept honest with some strong turns on the front. Bill Harris, Michael Gilbert & Don Worger all struggled & were dropped on the second lap. The rest took it to a sprint finish with Mal Saad & Ben Haywood riding off the front while the sprinters played a waiting game, keeping an eye out for the first one to jump. Noel Mathiske went first but Ian Budden came over him & set in for the chase to catch Saad & Haywood. Budden caught Haywood with only metres to spare, Haywood hanging on for second with Russell Davis taking third, Noel Mathiske fourth & Mal Saad hanging on for fifth. This was a good ride for Ben Haywood as he & Matt Worth had been dropped on the climb for the final lap with both riding back onto the bunch on the way home.

                   D Grade was the Tyler Nicholson show. Tyler broke away to ride the 2 laps solo to take victory in what was a warm up ride for next weeks Championship. Len Newman came in second & Barry Lambert third. John Hawkins finished fourth & Darren Harvey fifth. 

                   There was only one starter in E Grade so Stephen Nicholson took maximum points.

                   Our Junior riders raced a 6 km scratch race with Marcus Worth taking first place form Jordan Blick in second & Michael Dowsett third.
