Cycle Racing this week was held on the Central Lansdowne course. Graded Scratch races were held in each grade good numbers of starters in all grades except B & E Grades which are still needing more riders to make it viable. Six riders turned out for the A Grade derby with Stephen Lewis & Dan Aldridge favored to take out the four lap event. Rhett Pattison returned after a short lay off to bolster the ranks. All riders survived to the finish with Dan Aldridge overpowering the field to win the sprint from Stephen Lewis in second & Ben Stricker in third place. Gavin Jackson finished in fourth place & Troy Croker taking fifth.
B Grade was a race that appeared to be a waiting game as no real pace was evident as they rode the four laps before deciding the result in a sprint finish. Mal Saad did struggle with some early pace on but later rejoined when the pace had slowed. Michael Godwin showed his improved sprint to win easily from Noel Mathiske in second & Greg "Pop" Walmsley home in third & Mal Saad fourth. Matt Worth & Justin Woolard failed to finish.
C Grade raced for three laps of the course & averaged a higher speed than B Grade. Riders like Steve McInerney, Tanya Cross, Clint Squires & Stephen Richardson worked hard all race to keep the pace high. Don Worger threw up the white flag early & failed to finish. Ben Haywood was another to struggle early but hung on in the make the sprint finish. After three laps of racing, nine riders were in he mix for a podium finish & it was Graeme McGechan who took an opportunists move & jumped early with still 800 metres to travel. Ian Budden took up the chase & caught McGechan but was still a long way from home. Russell davis rode a clever sprint & let others do the lead out work & was in the perfect position to take the win on the line with Ian Budden hanging on for second, Stephen McInerney third, Phil Mitchell fourth & Tanya Cross completing a solid ride with fifth place.
D Grade was not much slower than C Grade with Brian Lewis riding a very strong race over the three laps of their race. Tyler Nicholson & Robert Alley were the strongest of the rest. Barry Lambert, Kelle Nicholson & Darren Harvey had to be content with riding the race in a bunch of dropped riders. Brian Lewis wrapped up a good ride with a win in the sprint from Robert Alley in second, Gary Piper in third, John Hawkins fourth & Len Newman fifth.
E Grade was taken out by Stephen Nicholson from Brian Louden in second & Bill Biddle third.
The juniors had more starters this week & Marcus Worth took out the handicap event from Jordan Blick in second & Kayne Budden in third.
