Josh Blick stamped his dominance on the 30km handicap held on the Central Lansdowne course last Saturday afternoon. Riding alone from the scratch mark, Josh caught the lead rider 500mts from home to take victory & fastest tme for the event. Riding from the limit mark of 17 minutes, new rider Ben Haywood along with Stephen Nicholson & Jahl Nicholson had it all to do to survive to the finish. It all went pear shaped for the the 13 minute bunch of Harold Greenhalgh, Tyler Nicholson & Kellie Nicholson when Kelle touched wheels with Tyler & came down heavily sustaining a cut to an eyebrow & two broken teeth. Harold & Tyler both stopped to assist, effectively ending their race. Three minutes back, Russell Davis & Wilf Alley found it tough going with only two in the bunch. The 7 minute bunch of Noel Mathiske, Handicapper Greg Walmsley,Tanya Cross, Don Worger & Mal Saad looked to be the bunch to catch with Justin Woolard, Anthony Cross, Nathan Loreton & Jack Steedman always going to battle to hold out chopping block with Michael Cross,Phil Knowles & Tai Piper in hot pursuit. Josh Blick was the sole scratch man, giving block a 1 minute advantage. Ben Haywood, despite losing his partners early in the race with Doctor Stephen required to patch up Kellie & Jahl retiring after 2 laps, held on to the lead until the last 500mts, when passed by Josh, but still managed 2nd place. Jack Steedman completed a good ride by finishing 3rd after escaping his bunch by holding on to the wheel of the rampant scratch man Blick, as he moved through the field. Noel Mathiske finished in fourth place with Mal "chip" Saad in 5th.
Thanks to Justin Woollard for setting up the course, Darren "bandaged bear" Mahoney & Carl Blick for Traffic Control & the wonderful ladies, Sue Hart & Jannelle Blick for sign on duties.
