Racing last last Wednesday was held at Coopernook on the Old Bridge Road course. Thge Mozzies were again present at the finish line & sent riders & spectators alike looking for the Aerogard. Our Junior contingent started from the Highway end of the course. Emma Sewell was the victorious rider in the handicap event, riding from the 1 1/2 minute mark, she rode past the two riders in front of her & held out the rest of the field to take the points. Second place went to Marcus Worth starting from the 2 minute mark & third went to Kobe Pattison from the 2 minute mark. 4th was Ben Cross from the scratch mark & fastest time. He only missed out from the win by 15 seconds 5th was Zane Dawson riding from the limit mark.
B Grade was the first senior grade to race & travelled for 25 minutes + 2 laps & Brett Provost backed up last weeks result with another convincing win with a fast sprint finish.Sam Alley found his way onto the podium in second with Justy Woolard in third place. John Corbett again was in the points in fifth place & rounding out the points was Sean Sadler.
D Grade raced for 20 minutes + 2 laps & featured the dodgy brothers, Wilf "the fall guy" Alley & Robert "Autumn Leaves" Alley, when they came together at the narrow turn near the finishing line. Neither was hurt, much embarrasement felt. Phil Mitchell was the fast man in the sprint & held off the Alley Brothers with Wilf in second & Robert in third. Tyler Nicholson was fourth & John "the hook" Hawkins in fifth.
The fast men in A grade raced for 25 minutes + 2 laps & the usual tactics from Josh Blick saw him attack from the outset. Only Dan Aldridge & Glen Mathiske were able to cover the move & went with Blick to the finish where Dan Aldridge again was just to fast for Glen Mathiske & Josh Blick. They finished in this order well ahead of the bunch who had to be content sprinting for the final two points paying positions. Michael Cross just got the better of Lloyd Ninham in a close sprint which also included Daniel Crossingham who just missed out. Dan Clinch & Grant Webster found the pace a bit hot & failed to finish.
C Grade was a race of attacks with Troy Unicomb, Ian Budden & Kurt Sadler all having a go. All failed, although Bill Harris found himself dropped & having to find his way to the finish on his own in difficult cross winds. In the sprint, Russell Davis squeezed his way through a narrow gap to win from Kurt Sadler who had plenty of legs left. Michael Godwin claimed his first podium with third place. I'm sure this will be the first of many. Don Worger was fourth & Graeme McGechan fifth.
E Grade was again dominated by Ben Haywood, easily outsprinting his opposition & must surely be in the handicappers sites for a promotion. Jack Renneberg again was second & also pushing for promotion & Jake Schumacher who is much younger took third place & continues to improve. These three again broke away & dominated the race. Matthew Blick chased hard & was rewarded with fourth place & Jahl Nicholson got the final point for fifth.
